Books and other items may be requested by:

  • Placing the item on hold
  • Requesting an Interlibrary Loan
  • Suggesting a title

Holds

Desired items that are checked out may be placed on hold at no cost and can be done at any Library online catalog computer, online from home, or with the help of a staff member. Have your Library Card number available. You will be notified by email or mail when your hold is available.

A $1 re-shelving fee is applied to items not picked up by the "Pickup by" date.

Place a Hold from an online catalog computer in the Library:

  • Search for the item in the catalog.
  • Click on Place Hold.
  • Enter your 14-digit User ID from the back of your Library Card or your Alternate ID and PIN.

Place a Hold online from home:

  • Click on Library Catalog, above.
  • Log on with your 14-digit User ID from the back of your Library Card and your PIN (Personal Identification Numbers are assigned to every patron when Library Cards are issued.)
  • Search for the item in the catalog.
  • Click on Place Hold.

Place a Hold with Library staff help:

  • At the Library or by telephone (541-726-3766), staff at the Reference Desk will help you place a hold for the item desired. Have your Library Card available.
  • If a title from a partner library shows in our catalog, please contact library staff to place the hold for you. There is no additional fee to request items from: Cottage Grove, Creswell, Fern Ridge, Junction City, Mapleton, Oakridge or Siuslaw libraries. A $1 re-shelving fee is applied to items not picked up by the "Pickup by" date, as applies to all books placed on hold for pickup at the Springfield LIbrary.

Interlibrary Loans

Books that Springfield Public Library does not have may be requested from another library by placing an Interlibrary Loan Request at the Reference Desk.

  • There is a $5.00 fee per request. A $1 re-shelving fee is applied to items not picked up by the "Pickup by" date.
  • There is a three item limit.
  • No audiovisual items may be requested.

Title Suggestions for Purchase

Patrons may submit the title of any item appropriate to add to the Library’s collection, or suggest that the Library purchase additional copies of a particular title already in the collection. Suggestions can be made online, by telephone (541-726-3766), or in person. Library staff evaluates all suggestions.

  • From a catalog computer station in the Library, click on I Need Material. At the next screen, click on either Recommend to Order and fill in as much information about the book as you know, or Order Additional Copies with your desired item on the screen.
  • From home: Click I Need Material click on Recommend to Order and fill in as much information about the book as you know. Enter your User ID and PIN and your request will be forwarded to the proper Staff member.
